Living room pics post 2nd shower

I wish I took pics after our 1st shower as well - but here's our living room after unpacking everything from our 2nd shower.  LOL!  I have a feeling this isn't going to be the last time our living room has all this kid stuff strewn about.  In 6 months I will take another photo to compare the similarities:)

30 week update!

I've hit the big 3-0 this past Saturday!  30 weeks that is:)  Again, I can't believe how far I am along - but at the same time I can't help thinking "are you sure I'm only 30 weeks - not 32 or 33 weeks?"  It feels like time is crawling now!  To compensate I have been making myself very busy both at work and at home.

Work is really getting to be unbearable though.  I have awful tailbone pain and am constantly having to take breaks to go walk around or go pee.  My chair is top-of-the-line at work, but still my tailbone starts throbbing by 10am despite the 3" cushion I bought to try to alleviate the pain.  Needless to say I've been working at home a lot.  Being able to stay in my lounge-wear is starting to be less of a perk and more of a necessity as maternity clothes are starting to not fit anymore!  I refuse to buy more so that I can wear them for just another 2 months so I'm gonna just suffer through it.  I have lost a lot of my mental energy too - with the lack of quality sleep and inability to stop thinking about baby and all my aches & pains, keeping up with assignments is getting hard.  I'm still able to maintain a fair amount of productivity and my coworkers have all been accepting of my physical and mental slow-down.  So the plan is still to stick around until the last week of October.

We had our 2nd shower almost 2 weeks ago.  It was really great!!  My sisters, mom, & dad did a great job putting it all together and threw it for me in my parents' backyard.  The weather was perfect and again my hubby & I were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone.  I'm really glad we decided to have the showers at the beginning of the 3rd trimester as opposed to later on.  This way I was still able to get around, talk to everyone, and not be tired.  Sure there were times when I had to sit down or had to stand, but it wasn't that bad.  I could definitely see how in a couple weeks it would've been pretty hard though!  Since the 2nd shower, we have been in full-blown nursery prep/organization mode.  Things are pretty much done in there now besides for wall décor and assorted knick-knacky items.  I finished the storage bins I was working on.  They look great in there and will store baby's toys at first.  We have to get some things that are left over on our registry - boring items such as bottle nipples, diapers, mattress protectors, burp cloths, etc - but for the most part, we are all set for baby to arrive!  It's unreal walking by the nursery now - I can actually imagine our little guy hanging out in there having tummy time on the floor, cooing at me as I change his diapers, screaming and wailing from the crib when he doesn't want to take a nap (LOL).

So with the nursery looking so good, last weekend I had a surge of energy and motivation (aka "nesting") and I moved on to organizing the entire house.  I'm proud to say that I accomplished that feat in one weekend by myself!!  And NO I did not cut any corners!!  Of course that meant that I had to work at home the following Monday since my body was so sore - obviously overdid it.  But it feels SO GOOD to have that done!  Next up is... I'm not sure.  Probably will finish decorating the nursery.  I bought a bunch of $0.99 tissue paper packets that I'm going to use to make hanging "poufs" - perhaps it will replace the need for a mobile over the crib.  Hubby is begging me to start toning it down and start relaxing but that means time will slow down and I'll have nothing to do but sit around and wait for 2 months.  There are things I can do while relaxing though.  I have lots of books to read on labor and taking care of a baby and I can review the info that we have gotten from the childbirth classes we have started taking.  I can also start working up a plan to get rid of the pregnancy weight.  These non-physical activities can keep my mind busy somewhat - but sometimes you just need something physical to really shut your mind off.  Well, I'll figure it out I guess!  The plan for next weekend is to visit with my hubby's parents, my dad is visiting Sunday, and Monday I am going to try to just sit and read.  We'll see how it goes - worst case, if I start going crazy, I can do some cleaning or something.

All in all, everything is going great at 30 weeks.  Looking forward to watching the next 10 pass by quickly!

28 week belly pic

Here's the usual belly pic for 28 weeks( the first of the 3rd trimester!):

And here's the pic with the fun sticker:

Next time I get pregnant I really have to get a better camera for these belly pics!

1st baby shower and 28 week OB appointment

We had out first baby shower last weekend.  I can't believe we are that far along to be ready for baby showers!  We are though - no doubt about it!  This shower was thrown by my hubby's aunt and the guests were all from my hubby's side of the family.  It was on the smaller side and was at his aunt's lake house which was great.  The weather was beautiful and we were even able to get in a boat ride around the lake.  My hubby and I were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone!  We received lots of good stuff - both on and off the registry!  When we got home later that night we went through all the gifts and organized it all in the nursery.  It was all so exciting to see actual baby clothes hanging in baby's closet and putting on the new bedding really helped the nursery take shape.  We've also started to receive shipments of gifts from people.  Things are getting very real and we are starting to realize that we are going to have a storage issue with all the baby gear!  We've got a rock'n'play, bouncer, swing, 2 strollers and they've all been put in the basement for now.  Pretty soon that stuff will be scattered about the house along with all baby's other stuff.  Some SERIOUS home organization is in order - and fast!  But as usual I have gotten side-tracked, and am currently consumed with making some DIY storage bins for a set of shelves that we have in baby's room.  And next weekend we have baby shower #2.  So I think the home organization task will have to wait til September.

I had my 28 week check up this week and all was great.  I got checked for gestational diabetes and anemia too.  Was slightly nervous about the diabetes but all came back clear.  I am not anemic nor do I have diabetes.  Yay!  AND I only gained 3 pounds last month which my OB was happy to see.  Much better than the prior month's 9 lb gain.  So all is looking great.  I go back in 2 weeks for another check up.  Biweekly visits will continue until October when they'll be every week.

Yesterday marked the first day of the 3rd trimester!  WHOOHOO!!:))  We are coming down the home stretch!!  Can't wait to meet this little guy:))

I need a helmet

I just looked at my pregnancy tracker on my blog and realized I am almost 2 weeks away from the 3rd trimester!  Eeeek!!  It's funny how I have been pregnant for a half a year and it still hasn't hit me that we will have an actual baby in this house soon!  I still can't even believe I am actually pregnant sometimes.

Things have been going well this week.  I am pushing away my fears about our baby's ventricle and letting God and my uterus work their magic so that on September 9th when we go in again for our follow-up, all is perfect.  My mom was down this past weekend helping me paint the nursery and our guest room.  Both rooms look great!  I will post pics of the nursery sometime soon.  Now that everything is painted in there we are going thru all my hubby's childhood toys and books that his mom gave us.  We are taking an inventory of what we have so we know how much storage we will need in the room.  So it's a bit of a mess in there right now!  Our first baby shower is a week from Saturday so the goal is to have things in order by then.  Can't believe it's already time for the baby showers too!  Time is just flying by.

There was some minor drama this week though.  Monday morning I was walking in to work.  It was drizzling and I had my usual flip flops on since I can't fit in to my cute slingbacks right now.  I walk in to my building, there is a runner just inside the door, and then marble.  As soon as my feet hit the marble, down I went!  "Oh NO!!", I thought when I realized what I had just done.  Luckily I did land on my hands and knees - my belly wasn't involved whatsoever.  My arms were full of stuff that I was bringing in to work and when I fell, my arms threw everything up in the air so I could break my fall.  Funny how those instincts kick in.  But I made quite a mess.  No one was around to help me but I was glad because it was quite embarrassing!  I just got back up to my feet, collected my belongings strewn about on the floor, and continued to my office.  Once I sat down at my desk I called my OB and they told me to come in for a quick check that afternoon.  They said considering that I landed on my hands and knees, probably nothing was wrong but since I was so close to the 3rd trimester, they wanted to be sure.  If I was in the 3rd trimester, they would have had me go to Labor & Delivery to get monitored for a bit before clearing me.  They don't fool around with falls I guess!  So I turned my attention towards work - trying to ignore my throbbing ankle and the fact that I couldn't walk properly.

Finally it was time to go.  I got to my OB's office, they did all the usual stuff - urine sample, weight, blood pressure check.  They listened to the heartbeat and the fetal heart tones sounded good.  The doctor pressed around my belly to make sure nothing hurt, verified that I wasn't bleeding, and basically just said to be more careful and sent me on my way with instructions to come back if I did start to bleed or if my belly was hurting.  Clearly nothing was wrong with the baby but any pain or blood could mean the placenta had detached from the uterine wall.  This happened on Monday and today is Wednesday so I think I'm in the clear.  I still feel baby moving around and no pain or blood.

My ankle on the other hand is not that great.  I literally could not walk Monday night.  It was all I could do to get up the stairs so I could go to bed.  I ended up crawling to bed - something I haven't done since my college years (LOL!).  Of course hubby is out of town this week for business so I can't have him wait on me!  It's getting a lot better though.  Yesterday and today I could do basic things - but the dog has missed her walks and I worked from home both days.  If it's still bad tomorrow, I may have to visit my primary care doc to get it looked at.  My OB said that I can take tylenol and even get an xray but I'd rather not do either if I don't have to.  Just chalking it up to a simple sprain and icing it at regular intervals.  Another couple days hopefully I'll be just fine!  Lesson learned though - I am now switching my shoes to sneakers (I don't care how unfashionable it looks with my work attire)!  While I do blame the fall somewhat on my shifted center of gravity and general clumsiness, I think most of the blame lies on my flip flops - they have absolutely no traction on the bottom and really don't provide the right amount of support that my feet need right now anyway.  So while it is so nice to have my swollen tootsies out in the open feeling the breeze on hot summer days, safety first I guess.  I don't need anymore falls from now on!
